Elon Musk has claimed that Jeffrey Epstein orchestrated a campaign to short Tesla, allegedly convincing Bill Gates to take a 1% short position when the company's market capitalization was approximately $40 billion. The allegations surfaced as the US Department of Justice released millions of pages of Epstein-related documents, naming several high-profile billionaires, including Musk and Gates.

Email exchanges between Musk and Epstein from 2012-2013 contradict Musk's previous assertions that he barely knew Epstein. However, records show SpaceX servers began blocking Epstein's emails in 2014, which Musk later confirmed on X, stating he severed ties. Musk quipped about Gates' ongoing short position, suggesting it had not aged well.
